Additional Information
Player Hotels:
Stay-and-Play
Both USAV/AAU have implemented “Stay-and-Play” policies for many of the 2/3 day travel tournaments. This essentially means that the tournament host requires teams to stay in designated hotels in order for the team to be accepted into the tournament. It is a policy that clubs and families despise, nonetheless, we must abide by the rules in order to play in the tournament. Mystik VBC will secure room blocks for each team and pass on the booking instructions to the families when we have the information. Only rooms booked through the links we send will meet the requirement. (i.e. you cannot go directly to the hotel website or Hotels.com and book a room.)
To be fair, all athletes must stay in the designated tournament hotel. We understand that these hotel rates are oftentimes more expensive or that some of you may have family in the tournament location, however, allowing one family to stay offsite versus another is not equitable and equity is one of our pillars. As an option, families can buddy up in order to share room costs. We will always aim to block rooms with two beds for this reason. We also aim to book rooms way in advance of the tournament so that we can have an opportunity at selecting the closest, but most affordable hotel. (If sharing a room with another family, please be sure to email the club director when the reservation is made so that we can manage room count.)
Any player not staying in the designated stay-and-play hotel will not be able to participate in that tournament. (No fees will be refunded.)
Non Stay-and-Play
Family choice. We will indicate early on which tournaments are non stay-and-plays so that you can make your arrangements in advance.
Memberships:
USAV
After you are selected for a team, we will send you a club roster invite. This will allow you to affiliate your junior athlete membership with our club for the 2024 - 2025 Sun Country Region season (SURVA) and that will allow us to add you to your team roster. Simply registering for a SURVA junior athlete tryout membership ($35) / Full Season Junior Membership ($65) will not automatically affiliate you with our club. Accepting a team invitation from our club is the only way you can be affiliated with our club regardless of your affiliation last season. The membership fee of $65 is split between USAV and SURVA. Without this membership, you are not able to participate in tryouts, practice or USAV tournaments.
Important Dates:
Tryouts:
Sunday, August 4, 2024
Sunday, August 25, 2024 (make-up)
Season:
Local starts January 6, 2025 - April 21/28, 2025
Regional starts January 6, 2025 - June 9, 2025
(Season end dates are approximate and based on final tournament registrations/acceptances. There will be no practices beyond the final tournament of the season.)
Age Based Team Placements: Giving Players More Time to Shine
At Mystik Volleyball Club, we understand the importance of creating fair and balanced competitions for players of all ages. That's why we endeavor to place athletes in their respective divisions based on the USAV table below.
Increased Development Opportunities
When athletes play in their appropriate divisions, players have an extended time frame to grow, both physically and mentally. This means that they can spend more seasons fine-tuning their techniques, mastering their positions, and building stronger volleyball IQs. Playing in their designated brackets allow players to acquire a more comprehensive foundation, enabling them to reach their full potential on the court.
Smooth Transition and Improved Competition
One of the primary benefits of standardized age groups is the improved transition process between age divisions. The time granted to players in each age group will help ensure a smoother progression from one division to the next. This transition period is crucial for players to adapt to new challenges, develop stronger teamwork skills, and adjust to the increasing level of competition.
